Bucket Shrimps

If you are like me who craves for shrimps most of the time (craves for everything. lol), well, here is a new place perfect for your shrimp cravings.

Bucket Shrimps Logo

Bucket Shrimps is a new destination for seafood enthusiasts  Or at least for shrimps. In their menu, one can find a bucket of shrimps, and that my friend is a must-try.

Must-try combi
Located in 11 Orchid Street, Capitol Site, Cebu City, its just across 'STK ta bai'. Though the place is quite secluded, you will be surprised aside from these places i mentioned above, there are definitely other worth-to-try dine-in spots near the area.

About the place, the owner Chad Regner spearheaded the idea of bringing in the theme of metal buckets in his restaurant. Yes, metal buckets, thats what (i think) made them famous or at least got the attention from. Even the rice were served out from a small metal bucket. They started back in September 2013 and the place is attracting more visitors day-by-day.

Here is what you will see in their 2 sided menu:

Bottled water - P35

Bottled soda - P15
2L Soda - P150
Beer 4+1 bucket - P220 or P50 each

Pitcher mix drinks - *P200

*Kaleche
*Mojito
*Margarita
*Calma
*Rumcocaloka

Boiled Shrimp - P295

with sauces you can choose from (Cajun, or Gata)
Crab Saucy Relleno - P250
Shoft Shell Thai shrimp - P295
Chicken wings - P150
Liempo loco - P180

Crazy pusit - P120

Liempo Loco

Decorated rice serving. isn't that cool?

Bucket Shrimp is a place definitely worth a try, aside from the affordable pricing, you will also get that homey feeling because most of the people serving the place is a member of their family.

When we were their I did expect to eat on a paper bib which I see on most pictures posted on the internet when people eat in Bucket Shrimp. But it was removed for some reason, however you will be provided with a huge roll of tissue paper to clean out after and an area to wash your messy hand is just nearby.

Expect to eat messy! expect to eat delicious!

By the way, I suggest to call them for reservation ahead because the place is most of the time helluva jump-packed with foodies like me!! open from Mondays through Sundays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 5 to 11 p.m, you can contact them at 09423820910. You can also visit their fb page here.

Here's the map to the place

Johnny Rockets

During my 2-month stay in Quezon City because of work, I had the chance to visit few places worth blogging. One of which is Johnny Rockets where me and my wife decided to dine due to good customer service reputation and unique western style of dining.

Johnny Rockets
This branch we visited is located in the ground floor of Eastwood Mall in Quezon City, one should not miss visiting this place if you are in for a 50's inspired quality restaurant. Johnny Rockets is actually an American restaurant franchised in the Philippines and also available in (more or less) 23 countries. Founded in 1986, they were able to maintain the vintage inspired restaurant.

Interior decorations

They did a great job with the interiors with a lot of memorabilia decorating the entire place especially framed posters of war men and coca-cola ads which was famous during the 50's.

Johnny Rockets is also famous with the way they serve ketchup because its their signature to draw (out of ketchup) in the saucer a smiley face. Pretty cool right?

Me and my wife Ivane

Jukebox

Jukebox control on each table

Jukebox was famous during the 50's and Johnny Rockets have their own jukebox where you can choose any songs from their playlist. You just need to look for the small jukebox control on your table that accepts coins for you to listen to your favorite old music.

Bacon Cheddar Double at Php 595 (good for sharing)
Unlimited fries at Php 125
Prices are actually worth-it for this kind of experience:

Starters from Php125 up
Burgers from Php245 up
Salads from Php195 up
Premium Chicken from Php275 up
Rocket Kids Meal from Php215 up
Desserts from Php145 up
Beverages from Php110 up

Lemonade worth Php 110 (refillable)
te
Root beer float worth Php 110 (refillable)

Another thing you should expect in Johnny Rockets are their dancing crew with such bubbly personalities, I never saw anyone not wearing a smile which is very ideal and should be followed by other restaurants. Great customer experience indeed.

Temporary Inactive Status

With typhoon Maring that struck the (almost) entire Luzon last August with a lot of changes in my career, that includes my transfer to Quezon City for business purposes, I kind of miss updating my blog.

But pretty much, there are still things I like to share and more things to uncover on my next adventures. I will be back in Cebu few weeks from now, so that means, me back in writing :).

Papa Kit’s Marina and Fishing Lagoon

One of the easy-to-go places that pops in my mind whenever there is an urgent off the city travel for a team building or family outing should be Papa Kit’s Marina and Fishing Lagoon or just simply Papa Kit's. The moment my supervisor ask us to suggest a place to visit on a Sunday, I immediately recommended Papa Kit's  I've never been there but i heard a lot of good stuff about the place.

Fishing was one of the things I looked forward but i never expected the zip-line amazed me (us). I thought it was just a mainstream zip-line but the scenery was superb, hanging on a cable wire over a clear blue sea added the drama, it was a fun experience indeed, and not to mention 800 meters is promising. I tried the wall climbing adventure but i never made it on top, not bad for a first timer like me at least reaching the middle (stupid wall).

Free shuttle ride

Before climbing the wall and trying the zipline, we went fishing first and ate the total 2-kilo Tilapia and Bangus we caught. Its been years now that i haven't gone fishing, and i must say fishing for me (though not easy, and quite tricky) is one of the things i always want to do. I don't care if i didn't catch a-plenty, one fish was enough for me to share the experience.

That's me in white.. sigh.

Summer is almost over and pretty much, a lot of you still want to catch up specially now that its mostly raining, Papa Kit's is a perfect place for you.

The place is located in Silot Bay, Liloan, Cebu, a short 30 mins travel from the City. Entrance fee is consumable worth Php100.

my 3rd time in Spring Park Mountain Resort

The first time I was here was ages ago on my aunt's wedding, which was actually the first event Spring Park Mountain Resort hosted. I admit though, I've been to Lutopan Toledo for quite some time now but I've only been to this resort 3 times. I wrote about this place before (found here) and I was surprised when I visited lately with the huge improvement. Kudos to the management who brought life back to the almost dead resort. The last time I was here, the place was almost empty except for some staff who were busy doing their usual tasks but not this time, people started to fill the place.

This was empty the last time we visited.

The newly added mini pools.

The tilapia pond with low water.

Spring Park Mountain Resort still offers the laid back feel and the close-to-nature experience. I still like the simplicity of the place and how everyone can enjoy without thinking about paying so much. Yes, this might be different from the fanciness of all the resorts with a 5-star rating, but us Filipino still favors something that everyone can enjoy.

You can visit the place by bus from the Cebu South Bus terminal or in One Citilink via van (1.5hours of travel).

Cafe Sevillano.

The Legend Palawan Hotel - Puerto Princesa Palawan

Known for its hospitable reputation, The Legend Palawan Hotel became the top choice for local and foreign travelers when visiting Puerto Princesa Palawan. Located ideally in downtown Puerto Princes, this place is accessible to other establishments as well as the airport.

The inviting pool in The Legend Palawan

During our visit in Puerto Princesa, The Legend Palawan was one of the hotels we chose not just because of its location but because of how well they presented themselves through their website and how attractive their accommodations were. It's all worth for your money I should say. It was just me and Ivane during our visit so we've chosen their Deluxe Room, perfect for couple with complete room amenities that includes King-size bed or two (2) Double beds, Dinette table and chairs, Bedside control panel, solo fridge, cable tv, and a bathtub. Room accommodation from 2,600php (solo pad) or up should be a decent amount for a 3-star hotel.

Room options are:
  • Solo Pad
  • Twin Pad
  • Superior
  • Deluxe
  • Junior Suite
  • Executive Suite
  • Presidential Suite
If you choose a hotel for your vacation I would suggest you go for a hotel with transportation services because you may not know for sure where to find the hotel and for convenience purpose as well, not unless you have your own/rented transportation. The Legend Palawan Hotel might have employed good drivers because our driver was more than willing to share almost all the stories of Puerto Princesa even during our short travel from the airport to the Hotel, it became almost like a mini tour with trivia, or maybe we were just lucky with the driver who helped us.

Dull moments shouldn't be a problem inside the hotel premise because you can spend your time in their well maintained swimming pool perfect before/after a tour within Puerto Princesa.

My wife from afar in the pool.

The hotel also offers other services, like Laundry, restaurants, currency exchange, safety deposit usage, massage services, and a guided tour.

Burnham Park - Baguio City

The place is well known for its man-made lake where you can go swimming (lol) boating and enjoy what's left in your summer vacation. Dubbed as the summer capital of the Philippines, Baguio city offers a different kind experience away from the buzzling usual city.

Burnham Park is located in the heart of Baguio where you can never get yourself lost finding it, since you can just ask around and find your way sitting on one of the benches around and enjoy an unhurried day, reading your book or eating Chicharon or strawberry Taho.

Named after the city's planner Daniel Hudson Burnham, he was able to come up with a design that withstand time even after a century. Though there might be some minor revisions from the original design but most of the Burnham Park is the same as when it was built in the early 1900.

Burnham Park offers the following:

  • the man-made lake with rowboats for hire that folks refer to as the Burnham Lagoon
  • the Children's Playground
  • the Skating Rink
  • the Rose Garden
  • the Orchidarium
  • Igorot Garden
  • Melvin Jones Grandstand
  • the Athletic Bowl
  • a Picnic Grove
  • the Japanese Peace Tower
  • Pine Trees of the World
  • Sunshine Park

Aside from the attempt to feel like we were in a different country because of the temperature, our main reason going to Baguio was to experience picking fresh strawberries. Though the attempt to see a strawberry farm failed because it was off season when we went there, It was still a fun experience especially with friends around.
